This certification requires rigorous training in arboriculture, electrical safety, hazard recognition, safe-work practices, and specialized techniques to work legally within a 10-foot minimum approach distance (MAD) of power lines as well as commercial and residential service drops.

This standard is set forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and supported by Industry Standards such as American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).
